Rahul Dravid acknowledges his team’s winning start in the Under-19 World Cup

Indian team started their campaign on Thursday against Ireland with a 79-run victory.

The ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup opened in Bangladesh on Wednesday with a match between the hosts and South Africa, which was won quite comprehensively by Bangladesh. On the other hand, under the stewardship of legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid, the Indian team started their campaign on Thursday against Ireland on a winning note.

Batting first, Indian colts scored 268 runs for the loss of nine wickets from their stipulated 50 overs. Sarfaraz Khan, who is already a household name thanks to his time with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scored 70 ball 74 while Washington Sundar also scored 62.

In reply, Indian bowlers did well to bundle the opposition out for 189. Rahul Batham was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 15 while Avesh Khan and Mahipal Lomror got two wickets each. Sarfaraz was declared the Player of the Match, post which, the coach Dravid acknowledged team’s performance and lauded the boys through his official Facebook page.

The team couldn’t have asked for a better start. Hopefully they continue with their winning run in the coming matches, as the entire nation’s eyes are now following their progress. They have all the requisites; a talented group, a good support staff and the best coach a team could have.
