Board of Control for Cricket in India (BBCI) appointed Rahul Johri as Cheif Executive Officer (CEO). This probably is one of the hottest seats in the cricket crazy nation. As soon as the news of this appointment came, fans grew curious on who this man is? Besides having immense experience and knowledge on handling media businesses, there are few other interesting things, which one would like to know about Johri. Abhishek Kumar brings out some of those interesting facts about the new CEO of BCCI.
1. Before becoming CEO of BCCI, Johri worked with Discovery Networks Asia Pacific as Executive Vice-President and General Manager.
2. He resigned from Discovery Networks on February 24, 2016.
3. His appointment in BCCI as CEO comes because of Justice R.M. Lodha committee report. The committee suggested Indian cricket board for the creation of post like CEO and CFO.
4. He will continue to work with Discovery Networks as a senior advisor to Arthur Bastings, President and Managing Director, until the end of 2016.
5. In last eight years, Johri headed India and South Asia operations of Discovery Networks.
6. It was under his leadership, Network’s flagship Discovery Channel beat several Hindi and English new channels and became India’s biggest non-fiction entertainment channel.
7. Under him, Discovery Networks flourished to 11 channel bouquets, which includes Lifestyle, Kids, ID and few Hindi entertainment channels as well with three High-definition channels.
8. He will be the first CEO in the history of BCCI and will join the board from June 1, 2016.
9. His role will be to manage operations, stakeholder management and building robust strategies for further promoting the sport, the BCCI said in a release.
10. Johri will be reporting directly to Honorary Secretary Anurag Thakur and he will be based at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
