Just like the first One-Day International (ODI), once again India batted first, Rohit Sharma scored a ton and Australia chased down the total quite comfortably. Last time, Australia chased their total with four balls to spare and this time six balls to spare. In both the matches Virat Kohli also scored a half-century but couldn’t convert into a big hundred. Irrespective of who lost or won, the records continue to flow along with the runs that came in both matches. Like the first ODI, Abhishek Kumar is once again back with his statistical-cum- fun fact from the second epic clash between Australia and India at Brisbane.
1. With another century in Australia and this time in Gabba, Rohit became the third Indian to score a hundred at this ground after VVS Laxman (103 not out) and Gautam Gambhir (102 not out).
2. This time Rohit hit only three sixes throughout his knock and now he holds the record of the most sixes against Australia—40 sixes.
3. The second match between Australia and India at Brisbane was the 600th ODI hosted by Australia, while no other country has even hosted 500.
4. This was the third century by Rohit against Australia on the latter’s home soil and with this, he equalled the record of most number of centuries against these opponents. All Rohit needs is one more hundred and that will be another record to his name.
5. This was also Rohit’s second consecutive hundred against Australia in their den and he became the third batsman to do so in the Kangaroo nation after Graeme Hick and VVS Laxman in the ODIs.
6. This was Rohit’s fourth hundred in Australia, which is the most by any Indian batsman.
7. As India lost this match and Rohit’s knock of 124 runs became the highest score at Gabba on a losing cause.
8. After losing the second ODI, India equalled with England in terms of losing 10 matches after posting a total of more 300 plus in the first innings.
9. India’s middle order batsman Ajinkya Rahane scored a brilliant 89 run and completed his 2000 runs in his ODI career. He took 63 innings to do this and the same number of innings was taken by his mentor Rahul Dravid to cross the same 2000-run mark.
10. There was an amazing opening partnership witnessed during the Australian batting. Openers Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh put up 145 runs for the first wicket, which is the fourth highest partnership at Gabba.
11. Rohit now has an overall 10 ODI centuries in his account with five of those coming against Australia.
12. January 15 is also known as Army Day in India and Rohit is the only Indian batsman to score a century on this day. Other than Indian batsmen, David Gower (158), Viv Richards (103), Javed Miandad (115 not out) and Brendon McCullum (117) have made centuries on India’s Army day.
13. Australian openers, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh both scored 71 runs each. This is the third highest identical opening scores in ODIs. The other two are by Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes who scored 73 each and Desmond Haynes and Richie Richardson, they scored 72 each.
