The Rio Olympics 2016 kick-started on Saturday after a glittering opening ceremony and many Indian athletes locked horns for glory on day 1. The Indian men’s hockey team played their first game against Ireland and emerged victorious. They’ve now started their campaign on a winning note and will look to continue their good run in the remainder of the event. India won the game by 3-2 and broke their opening jinx as they have never won their opening game of the Olympics since 2000. This win attracted attention from the cricketers who are excited about the event and have encouraged the young guns.
