Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test jersey fetches Rs. 6 Lakh in gala auction

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s jersey which he donned for his 200th Test and also his final match fetched an astronomical sum of Rs 6 lakhs in a a gala auction hosted by Christie’s at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.

According to the PTI report, Shiv Raj Singh, son of the the erstwhile ruler of Jodhpur Gaj Singh II, who hosted the second edition of the Jodhpur One World Retreat, made his bid for the jersey last night. Tendulkar retired from international cricket following his 200th Test against West Indies at Mumbai in November, 2013.

All the proceeds from the auction will go to the Indian Head Injury Foundation, set by Singh in aid of people suffering from head and brain injury and its awareness following a fatal head injury sustained by Shiv Raj Singh in 2005.

Close to a whopping Rs. 80 lakhs were raised in the charity event. “This money will help in achieving the objective of this initiative and will go a long way in ensuring that suffering caused by head and brain injury could be addressed in effective manner,” Singh said.
