Selfie with Gir Lions costs Ravindra Jadeja Rs 20,000; cricketer let-off after paying penalty

Star Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, who kicked up a storm after clicking selfies with Gir Lions and sharing them through his official social media accounts, has finally been let-off in the case after paying a penalty of INR 20,000. The Gujarat forest department gave a clean chit to the all-rounder in the case where he clicked pictures with the lions at Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Sasan, Junagadh, an act strictly prohibited by law, after he paid the fine. Since Jadeja is not in the country as he is representing India in the four-match Test series against West Indies in the Caribbean, his father-in-law Hardevsinh Solanki, gave the statement on his behalf and paid the fine recently. This information was shared by the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Junagadh, A P Singh. ALSO READ: Photo: Ravindra Jadeja finds a familiar “friend” in the Caribbean.

“We have collected Rs 20,000 fine from Jadeja for flouting rules inside the sanctuary during his visit in June. Since he was not available, we have taken statement from his father-in-law, who also paid the fine on Jadeja’s behalf,” Singh said, adding that the inquiry report is yet to be sent to authorities.

CCF AP Singh had ordered an inquiry after some of the photos, where Jadeja along with his wife Reeva were seen standing on the ground and posing in-front of lions, went viral on social media platforms after cricketer’s visit at the Sanctuary on June 17. Jadeja is currently taking part in the ongoing third Test between the two teams at Gros Islet. India lead the four-Test series 1-0.
