The Supreme Court (SC) finally pronounced its much-awaited verdict on N Srinivasan’s conflict of interest case and also said that BCCI functions are amenable to judicial review. N Srinivasan was found not guilty of cover-up, but court didn’t give him a clean chit on conflict of interest.

The SC set up three member panel headed by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Rajendra Mal Lodha to decide the fate of Gurunath Meiyappan, Raj Kundra, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.

The other judges in the panel are Justice Raju Varadarajulu Raveendran and Justice Ashok Bhan.

Justice Lodha’s term in office as the CJI was from December 2008 to September 2014.  He was India’s 41st CJI. The 65-year old had proposed in May 2014 to make Indian judiciary work throughout the year. During his tenure, one of his priorities was to bring down the staggering backlog of 3.3 crore cases.

Justice Raveendran, 68, is also a former judge of the SC. He has seen several high-profile cases like OBC reservation, 1993 Bombay bomb-blasts, etc. Inducted to the Karnataka High Court in 1993, he became the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2004 and was later elevated to the SC in 2005. A Hindu report said, “On September 9, 2005, he became judge of the Supreme Court, where he rendered landmark judgments on issues of the Constitution, reservation, education and human rights,” Justice Raveendran retired from the apex court in October 2011.
