Bangladesh after their win on Monday, lead England 2-1 in the World Cup history between the two sides. They first met each other in the 2007 edition which England won; the next two outings in 2011 and 2015, the Asian team took control.
The crucial Pool A fixture of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 played in Adelaide which decided the quarter-final line-up of that pool. It sealed the fate of England as they were knocked out of the tournament after a 15 run defeat. Mahmudullah’s maiden century and Rubel Hossain’s four wickets scripted a fairytale victory for the Bangladeshis as English cricket slumped to further embarrassment.
The last time England reached the semi-final stage was way back in 1992. Since then, their record in World Cup read as a quarter-final finish in 1996, 2011, group stage finish in 1999, 2003, 2015 and Super Eight stage finish in 2007. On the other hand, for Bangladesh, this is their first quarter-final entry. They had reached the Super Eight stage in the 2007 World Cup while all other editions, they were ousted in the group stage itself (1999, 2003, 2011).
Here are the Twitter reactions to ouster of England from the World Cup 2015:
