In the first three Tests of the series between India and South Africa, the latter did not particularly exude the aura a top-team. Their famed batting line-up comprising skipper Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy failed to live up to the expectations. But the fourth Test has finally showed a glimpse of what they are capable of.
Led by Amla, the Proteas finally showed some resistance with their backs to the wall. In pursuit of an improbable 481 to win on a wearing fourth and fifth day track at Kotla, Amla launched the counter attack of ‘blockathon’ with the opener Temba Bavuma. After the opener was dismissed, he joined forces with AB de Villiers and continued to frustrate the Indian bowlers by staying unbeaten on Day four. His resistance finally ended on the final day when Ravindra Jadeja breached his defense and knocked his stumps down. Amla scored a valiant 244-ball 25 before getting dismissed and left the field inspiring his colleagues not to give it away easily. His ‘blockathon’ earned him immense respect from the netizens, as the Twitterati applauded his knock by tweeting. We bring to you some to tweets here:
Extraordinary stonewalling by Amla and de Villiers. Can’t blame them though. Onus is on Indian bowlers to break through…
