All-rounder Irfan Pathan, who has been out of the Indian team for quite some time now, enjoys cult following amongst fans of Indian cricket. The left-hander from Baroda was once considered the next Kapil Dev of Indian cricket, but injuries and inconsistency reduced him to a domestic cricketer for large part of his career.
Picked by the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) for the ninth season of Indian Premier League (IPL), Pathan was expected to play a big role for the franchise as he was coming from a successful Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. But just like his previous IPL outings for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under MS Dhoni, Pathan was left out of the squad match after match for inexplicable reasons.
On Tuesday, when he finally got to play back-to-back games for RPS, his fans enjoyed his spell of three overs. Pathan had not bowled three overs up to this point in IPL 9. After Delhi Daredevils’ (DD) innings, his fans started trending him with tweets on him getting to bowl three overs. Recently, Sunil Gavaskar had blasted Dhoni for poor handling of Pathan. The resentment of the same among his fans was visible when they tweeted. Check some selected tweets here:

I don't know why, but #Dhoni always confuses me. At one end he looks all selfless at another end all egoistic. Sad for IrfanPathan. #RPSvDD

The deflection of MSD’s gloves distracted IrfanPathan. Hence, the misfield. #DhonisFault

The lacklusterfielding effort from IrfanPathansums up why Dhonihas NOT backed him in the last 2-3 years. Talent – yes, Fitness- None
