Sunday saw the first major upset of the ICC World T20 2016 when the rising force Afghanistan beat the so far unbeaten West Indies in a thrilling encounter by six runs. The win gave joy not only to the passionate Afghans who love their cricket team, but also to all the cricket lovers who love to see the underdogs win the contest between bat and ball. Also Read: Cricket fraternity congratulate Afghanistan on their win against West Indies in ICC World T20 2016

Afghanistan played well in all three games in the league stage and had their moments against England and Sri Lanka, but they failed to capitalise. Finally, the so-far elusive win came on Sunday against West Indies. As expected, the ecstatic Afghanistan players started celebrating on the pitch immediately after the last ball was bowled, by aping the dance moves from Dwayne Bravo’s single ‘Champion’.

The celebrations did not end here, and once the players came near the boundary line, they were in for a pleasant surprise. The ‘king of celebrations’ Chris Gayle, who loves to express his happiness on field through unique gestures, decided to join his opposition players in their celebration. Though it looks a bit awkward to see a player dance with the opposition players after his team’s loss, that’s how things work with Gayle.

Soon the Afghan players and Gayle started dancing to the tunes of ‘Champion’ song. Mohammad Shahzad, in particular, was leading the celebrations. This indeed was some gesture by Gayle, which suggests that the game is above a win or a loss and it is actually much more than it. The spirit showed by him confirms that cricket is still pretty much the gentlemen’s game.
