It is safe to call Australian opener David Warner one of the best batsmen in world cricket. Irrespective of the formats, Warner excels with his explosive batting. Back in 2009, he became the first man to play international cricket for Australia before making his First-Class debut since the first Test in 1877. He earned a massive reputation when he smashed 89 from 43 in a T20I against South Africa.
Has he looked back? No. His teammates call him ‘Lloyd’ and he indeed is as destructive as his West Indian (nick)namesake Clive Lloyd. More, he can improvise tremendously. Against India, during the 4th ODI at Canberra, Warner played a shot which is not there in the books. It can be called, ‘switch-hit late cut’.
See to believe:
While this shot fetched him a single, Warner can cause more damage. Now see this, what he does to Ravichandran Ashwin. Read more: David Warner turns right-hander to hit a sensational six over the straight field!
How we does that? Definitely he is skilful but he has worked hard towards it. In his early teens, Warner’s coach made him bat right-handed for one season because he hit too many balls in the air. He developed two strong bottom hands. Surely we can see the result of that practice here.
