Some are naturally gifted; some touted to be the next big thing while few work extremely hard to climb the steep-ladder to stardom. Virat Kohli belongs to the third category. He has slogged his way to where he is and deserves every bit of accolades that he receives. Quite rightly, “Commitment, passion and honesty” are the words the 27-year-old used when he was asked of three words to describe himself.
Kohli is the poster boy of Indian cricket and BCCI’s official Facebook account recently had him chat live with his fans over the world.
Kohli took a range of questions from fans and candidly opened up on several subjects. He put light on his strong relationship with the “misunderstood” Yuvraj Singh and said he is eagerly waiting to play alongside. It’s the praises from the legends of the game, especially from India that act as a motivation for him apart from the honour of representing the country. He also went on to rate his three top Test hundreds outside the subcontinent; with the one at Johannesburg in 2013-14 ruling the roost.
Australian cricket and sledging go hand-in-hand and Kohli gave an account on what transpired between him and James Faulkner during the third ODI at MCG. He went on to score his first ODI hundred against Australia in Australia but that wasn’t the reason for him getting emotional. It was due to his brother’s presence at the ground. Well, Bollywood is something that Kohli is quite linked to, thanks to his association with the famous Anushka Sharma. When asked about his favourite actor, he was quick to name Anushka’s co-star in the superhit PK. He named Aamir Khan as his favourite actor, not only because of his ability to pull off any kind of roles effortlessly but also for the messages the films have.
When asked if a biopic were to be filmed on him, what would be the opening scene? Kohli at his witty best mentioned fried food at home, colas and many other drinks which he stays away from now. Kohli mentioned that as a kid he was chubby and fat, but that’s all history now as he is one of the fittest cricketers in the world at the moment.
It didn’t stop there, he poked fun at his own bowling action and agreed to the views that it’s “funny”.
Unlike many youngsters of today’s generation, Kohli is someone who takes a keen interest in the game’s history. “I do like to know about the past and do keep updated. I am keen to know all the history. It’s important as we have the responsibility to carry the sport forward.”
Ok. That’s enough. One can’t stop writing about Kohli but here’s the video for you to find out the rest.
