While franchise cricket have many positives, often we have seen the ugly side of it when national teammates have had on field altercation almost leading to physical confrontation. Harbhajan Singh had slapped Sreesanth during IPL, and then we saw Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli fight, Amit Mishra and Munaf Patel exchanging unpleasant abuses, Kieron Pollard sledging Chris Gayle and many more. Cricket is called the gentleman’s game and Sunday saw another instance when player’s behaviour did not justify the said tag.
An altercation between Pakistani batsman Ahmed Shehzad and fast bowler Wahab Riaz got ugly during a PSL match. Shehzad turned up for Quetta Gladiators and Wahab for Peshawar Zalmi at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It was Valentine’s Day but these two cricketers showed no love at all.
Shehzad smacked Wahab’s first ball for a six and the bowler came back strong and cleaned him up in the next ball. Wahab was pumped up and was aggressive in celebrating while Shehzad not liking it came close to the bowler and showed him the bat, and the bowler retaliated by pushing him. The heated exchange of words were caught in camera. Here’ s the video:
According to reports, match referee Roshan Mahanama fined Wahab 40 percent of his match fees while Shehzad too was docked 40 percent for breaching ICC’s code of conduct. Wahab’s side Zalmi is led by Shahid Afridi and his fifer helped the side seal a victory.
