Virat Kohli’s brilliant hundred in the second innings on the final day of the first Test at Adelaide raised hopes for an Indian win, but eventually they fell 48 runs short, thanks to a dramatic collapse.
Kohli and opener Murali Vijay added 185 runs for the third wicket, but that wasn’t enough for the visitors.
Kohli scored 141 off 175 balls, hitting 16 fours and one six, before falling to Nathan Lyon, who picked up seven wickets and ended up with 12 wickets in the Test.
Kohli became the first overseas batsman in 53 years to score twin centuries in Australia.
Chasing 364 runs, India were bowled out for 315.
