Virender Sehwag wants to coach Team India?
As Ravi Shastri’s contract as Team India’s director ends post ICC World T20 2016, BCCI is once again in search for new coach. We are not clear if Shastri’s contract will be extended or not but names like Rahul Dravid, Stephen Fleming, etc. have already been doing rounds.
It is now the IPL time and post that Team India are scheduled to tour West Indies for a Test series. In a bid to become the coach of the richest board in cricket world, many coaches, and former cricketers has shown their interest to take this job. Some came forward directly to media and express their desire while some have very different way of showing their interest in it. And in this league, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag too seems to be interested.
The recently retired Sehwag, who is now the mentor of Kings XI Punjab, expressed his interest for the role through retweets. Former Indian cricketer Reetinder Sodhi too suggested his name for the next coach of Indian team as Sehwag gets huge respect everywhere and is one of the coolest characters in current Indian cricket fraternity. He has been retweeting people who have been suggesting his name as India’s coach.
It seems BCCI is not in hurry to take this decision and the most prominent name in this list is currently of Dravid, who was coaching India A and India Under-19 side. This responsibility to find the prominent candidate for this job has been given to BCCI’s advisory committee, which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman.
