India were just coming back after a long England tour. Yuvraj was the bowler whom English all-rounder Dmitri Mascerhanas had smacked five sixes in an over. That was on Yuvraj’s mind and he was hell-bent on getting back at England. India chose to bat after winning the toss at Durban. When Yuvraj came out to bat, India were going strong at 155 for 3 in the 17th over.
At the end of the 18th over, Yuvraj got into an intense argument with Flintoff and here is what happened:
It was only the first time in the game’s history when a fast bowler was clobbered for six maximums in an over. In an interview, Yuvraj revealed the details of the conversation. The conversation went like this:
Flintoff: Those were f***ing ridiculous shots
Yuvraj: F*** you
Flintoff: Excuse me?
Yuvraj: You heard what I said
Flintoff: I will cut your throat off
Yuvraj: You see this bat in my hand. You know where I am gonna hit you with this bat?
Truly, Yuvraj hit Flintoff where it hurt the most. Yuvraj scored 58 from 16, in the process brought up the fastest international fifty.India won the game by 18 runs. Here is how a red-faced Flintoff looked during the Yuvi-carnage!
