What is keeping Virender Sehwag busy? Tweeting and retweeting, we guess. Sehwag has been a mentor to Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) but he says he has “no time” to be the coach of the Indian side, rather he feels the team does not need a batting coach.
The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is all set for its inaugural season and Sehwag was present for the logo launch of the Madurai Super Giants team, one of the franchises. When asked if the 37-year-old wants to be the batting coach for Indian team, Sehwag politely kept his stand. A report from PTI quoted him as saying, “No, I don’t have time. I do not think the Indian team needs a batting coach since they have a lot of good batsmen. They need a bowling coach.” ALSO READ: Why Virender Sehwag feels Wriddhiman Saha is the “right choice”
Sehwag truly believes in his former teammate Anil Kumble, who is now the India coach, but warned that this real Test will be in overseas series in England, Australia and South Africa.
“I think he is the perfect man to coach India. He has scored a Test hundred as well as picked 600 wickets in Test matches. He is the most positive person I have met; he never gives up and that is the reason why the young team can learn a lot from him. Biggest task is defeating sides like England, South Africa and Australia when they tour India and how he copes up with pressure when meeting tougher sides,” said Sehwag.
Sehwag also stressed on the importance on power and technique in order to succeed in both Test and T20 format.
Sehwag added: “Both are equally important. If you have power and use good technique, then you can score more runs. Virat Kohli is the perfect example and he is the combination of both.”
