With Netherlands beating them Spain 5-1 in their opening match in Group B, assuring disqualification in FIFA World Cup 2014, Spain will face Australia, who are also out of the tournament.
Despite being the best team in the world for the last six years, Spain could not win even one of the two FIFA Confederation Cups (2009 and 2013). They lost 0-3 to Brazil in the 2013 final. They would want to leave Brazil with another FIFA World Cup win. This is also Spain’s 14th appearance in the FIFA World Cup history. They are in Group B with Netherlands — the team they beat 1-0 to win the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Chile and Australia are the other two teams in their group.
In the previous two FIFA World Cup campaigns, Australia banked on their experience. In the FIFA World Cup 2014, Australian coach Ange Postecogulu has selected a team that has the blend of youth and seasoned campaigners like Mark Breciano and Tim Cahill.
