France take on Nigeria in what will be a tightly contested battle for a place in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2014. The high flying France will face a physical and powerful side who pushed Argentina to the very brink before Lionel Messi’s heroics saved the day for the Albiceleste. France, on the other hand were in supreme goal-scoring form in their first two round robin games but were thwarted by a resolute defensive display by Ecuador in their final group game.

As far as African nations are concerned, France have seen their fortunes fluctuate. Their 0-1 loss against Senegal in 2002 edition’s opener is one of the most shocking results in the history of the competition. They also lost to South Africa in 2014. Nigeria will take a lot of heart from it. In Ahmed Mussa, the Super Eagles have a frontman who can spread terror to the opposition defenders.
