A place in the quarter-finals is at stake and pre-tournament favourites Germany and Algeria face off in the Round of 16 match in the FIFA World Cup 2014. Germany have been slick in their attack, predictably but their defence has been a little wobbly and received a scare in their group encounter against Ghana. Mario Goetze and Thomas Mueller in particular have been outstanding and it is the embarrassment of riches up front that the Germans would be banking to take them to the last eight.

An interesting trivia here is that in the past two encounters between the teams, Algeria have ended up on the winning side on both occasions. While this has nothing to do with what will happen today, Algeria have history on their side. On the other hand, it is infact the African nation that will be far more relaxed after reaching the last eight of the competition.
