Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Angel Maria Villar has not lost confidence in coach Vicente del Bosque despite the defending champions’ shocking 1-5 loss to the Netherlands in the World Cup opener. Villar could not hide his shock at the sheer scale of the defeat, one of the biggest blows suffered by Spain since he took over the RFEF presidency in 1988, according to Marca daily, reports EFE.

Before the World Cup, Villar said that Del Bosque can guide Spain to second successive World Cup wins. Despite the thrashing, which was biggest in Villar’s stint in the federation, he has full faith in Del Bosque, he said.

Villar considers Del Bosque part of Spanish football tradition despite the coach’s hints that he will leave his post after the World Cup. Del Bosque succeeded the late Luis Aragones after the victorious campaign in EURO 2008, and led Spain to win the 2010 World Cup and EURO 2012.
