Gujarat Lions recently appointed Suresh Raina as their captain. Raina was part of the banned outfit Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for eight seasons and for the first time he will play for a different franchise. Brad Hodge has been appointed the coach of the franchise. Hodge is one of the most experienced T20 players in the world and his knowledge, insights about the game will surely be well received. Gujarat Lions (GL) full team and squad for IPL 2016: Suresh Raina (c), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, James Faulkner, Brendon McCullum, Praveen Kumar, Dale Steyn, Dinesh Karthik, Dwayne Smith, Dhawal Kulkarni, Aaron Finch, Eklavya Dwivedi, Andrew Tye, Ishan Kishan, Jaydev Shah, Shadab Jakati, Pravin Tambe, Pradeep Sangwan, Amit Mishra, Shivil Kaushik, Aksh Deep Nath, Sarabjeet Ladda, Umang Sharma, Paras Dogra.
Final list of all players bought by GL at IPL 2016 auction: Dale Steyn, Dwayne Smith, Dinesh Karthik, Praveen Kumar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Amit Mishra, Jaydev Shah, Aksh Deep Nath, Shadab Jakati, Andrew Tye, Aaron Finch, Sarabjit Ladda, Shivil Kaushik, Pravin Tambe, Pradeep Sangawan, Eklavya Dwivedi, Ishan Kishan, Paras Dogra.
Amit Mishra, seamer not spinner, goes to GL.
Jaydev Shah starts off with 20 lakh. Gujarat Lions pick him up for his base price.
Aksh Deep Nath goes to GL for 10 lakh.
Shadab Jakati in now. And he is picked up immediately by GL, for his base price of 20 lakh.
Andrew Tye now. Gujarat Lions open the bidding, and Rising Pune Supergiants step in. Tye goes to GL for 50 lakh!
Aaron Finch for 1 crore comes back again. Gujarat Lions open the bidding. And he is sold with no contention!
Sarabjit Ladda, also goes to GL for his base price of 10 lakh!
Shivil Kaushik goes to GL for his base price of 10 lakh.
Pravin Tambe, with a base price if 10 lakh. GL have started off. DD are in the battle, but briefly. DD move out. So GL get him for a bargain at just 20 lakh.
Pradeep Sangawan is up next. GL start the bidding at his base price of 20 lakh. And he is picked up by GL for his base price.
Eklavya Dwivedi with a 20 lakh base price comes on, and SRH and GL start battling over him. SRH back out for a crore. And GL have picked him up!
Ishan Kishan, India’s U19 skipper is up for 10 lakh. RPS start the bidding, and GL join in. RPS backs out for 35 lakh. And GL get Kishan for 35 lakh!
Paras Dogra is picked up by GL for his base price of 4 lakh.
Karun Nair for a base price of just 10 lakh. Expect a huge war for him. RPS have started the bidding. Delhi Daredevils take them on. RPS back off at 75 lakh, but GL swoop in. DD and GL battle it out. But now GL back out at 1.4 crore.
Now comes Barinder Sran, with a base price of 50 lakh. RPS start the bidding. GL continues with the bidding. SRH are the new bidders now. They might just take him away too. GL have backed out as well. Sold to SRH.
Jaydev Unadkat, for just 30 lakh. KKR start with the bidding. GL join in. KKR get Unadkat for 1.6 crores!
Praveen Kumar with a base price of just 50 lakh. Gujarat Lions start things off. KKR engaged in a bidding war. And KKR have backed off with the price at 3.5 crores! So Praveen goes at 7 times his base price to GL.
Dahwal Kulkarni. 2 cr base price. Sold to GL for the base price!
Dinesh Karthik now. RCB start off the bidding. Gujarat Lions come in, and it looks like they will get him. Sold, Karthik goes to GL for 2.3 crores!
Sanju Samson up for auctioning, with a base price of 2 crores. Gujarat Lions start off the bidding. And finally the Delhi Daredevils have entered the bidding war. DD and GL are both quite keen on getting Samson. GL bow out for 4.2 crores, and DD pick him up.
Dale Steyn up for auction now. RPS start off the bidding. RCB jump in. RPS bow out at 2 crore. And in come Gujarat Lions, and RCB bow out at 2.3 crores. Steyn goes to GL for 2.3 crore!
Ashish Nehra is now in the mix with a base price of 2 crore. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) start things off. Gujarat Lions (GL) have started bidding against them. Both KXIP and GL going at it for Nehra! GL bow out at 3.50 crore.
LIVE UPDATES, IPL AUCTION 2016: Dwayne Smith is the second marquee player under the hammer. The bid is again between Gujarat and Pune. Gujarat have their first player in this auction, West Indian Smith goes to them for Rs. 2.3 crore.
Raina will also have local boy Ravindra Jadeja in his side. Other Players purchased by the Gujarat Lions during the recent draft were Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Bravo and James Faulkner. Being one of the two new teams — Other being Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) — they will end up buying most of the players available in the auction as they need to build a team from scratch. The team is owned by Keshav Bansal, who is the owner of Intex Technologies . By buying this team, Bansal became the youngest to own a team in the tournament. Bansal is just 23 years of age. The auction will be extremely crucial for this team. By acquiring McCullum, they have made a fantastic start. They will need a suitable opening partner for him. His national team member Martin Guptill might be an excellent buy. Bravo and Faulkner are seasoned campaigners, who have played in the tournament for a long time. They already have decent amount of experience already and they will look to expand their team and put up a good show in their debut season.
