Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live blog of the tour match between the England XI and Hong Kong, which will be a 50-overs each side contest to be played on Sunday at Abu Dhabi. The match is a preparation for England to adjust to the conditions ahead of their limited-overs series against Pakistan, which will begin shortly. This contest may not be of great importance for England because all that they would be concerned about is their conditioning, it will give Hong Kong a chance to come into the limelight. England wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Hales was quite serious about this tour match, as he told AFP about his and his team’s preparations: “The strides we made in the summer were fantastic and this will be as tough a challenge as we’ve had so far as this new outfit. We are playing in drier conditions where perhaps the game won’t be as free flowing as in England. I guess as an opener the power-play overs will be pretty crucial when there’s pace on the ball. You have a big role at the top of the order to go on and make big scores.”
“It is a great opportunity. Any time you play for England is, but it’s particularly important for me now with that spot up for grabs at the top of the order. Hopefully, I can show some form here and if I get that chance in South Africa I’ll be ready for that now,” Hales added.
