India seem to have recovered from their loss against New Zealand by winning a tense match against Pakistan. Meanwhile, Bangladesh have not looked at their best ever since Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny were reported for suspect bowling. Wow. Let me take a few minutes to breathe here. We have just witnessed a match that has seen the pendulum shift so often a grandfather clock’s life flashed before its eyes. Bangladesh needed 17 off 12 balls, then 11 off 6, and then 2 off 3. They lost 3 wickets off the last 3 balls of the match, and India won by 1 run. This has been a disappointing performance from India with the bat. The openers never quite got going and that trend continued till the end. Hardik Pandya looked good in his brief stay, but he was done in by a tremendous catch from Soumya Sarkar. Suresh Raina top-scored for India with 30 while Shikhar Dhawan (23) and Virat Kohli (24) contributed as well. MS Dhoni scored 13 not out, in the process going past 1,000 T20I runs. In the end, India could only muster 146 for 7. Bangladesh will feel they are in with a great chance of crashing India’s party. Virender Sehwag drops a bomb while talking about how Virat Kohli got some help from Sachin Tendulkar. “Tendulkar hardly gives time to youngsters, so Kohli is lucky.”
India are lucky that they do not have any injury concerns, so a change in their playing XI is highly unlikely. The pitch in Bengaluru has traditionally been a fairly high-scoring one, though Sri Lanka failed to make much of an impression with the bat in their last match. India will be a bit worried about the lack of runs from their two openers. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma were in excellent form coming into the tournament, but both failed in the first couple of games. Virat Kohli has been India’s saving grace, but India cannot win the tournament on the back of a single player. Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni have been in good nick as well, but Suresh Raina has been disappointing and could possibly move down the order to a more familiar No. 5 or 6.
