Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s live coverage of Day 1 of the Group A game of the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy between Karnataka and Haryana, live from Mysore. Karnataka has been the disappointment of the tournament so far. Having lifted the Trophy twice in succession, Karnataka are yet to win a single match in the tournament, though they are placed at fourth in Group A with 7 points from 3 matches. Haryana, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom of the group with 1 point from 2 matches. Led by Vinay Kumar, Karnataka remain one of the strongest teams, boasting of Robin Uthappa, Abhimanyu Mithun, Manish Pandey, Karun Nair, and Mayank Agarwal, though they will miss the services of Sreenath Aravind, who is on international duty. On the other hand, Haryana boast of Yuzvendra Chahal and Sachin Rana, but the biggest name is certainly their captain Virender Sehwag: the world will look at the match with added interest, given his recent retirement from international cricket and IPL. Karnataka were shocked by Assam in the opening match of Ranji Trophy, conceding a first-innings lead of 4 runs after Syed Mohammad took 7 for 44 to bowl them out for 187. They bowled out Bengal for 312 before Shishir Bhavane, Nair, and Gopal slammed hundreds, giving them a 225-run lead. Unfortunately, Karnataka could not push for a win. Pandey’s hundred and four-wicket hauls from Sreenath Aravind and Jagadeesha Suchith gave them a 40-run lead against Vidarbha before Ravikumar Samarth and Nair scored hundreds again.
Despite a 129-ball 92 from Sehwag at Pune, Haryana were bowled out for 335. Their bowlers were then thwarted by Swapnil Gugale (91), Ankit Bawne (172), and Chirag Khurana (136*) as Maharashtra finished on 570 for 6. They went down at Kotla as well as they were skittled out for 195, but they restricted Delhi to a 42-run lead. Chasing 225 Delhi were reduced to 183 for 6 before Milind Kumar saw Delhi home.
