This has been a fighting partnershp that has lasted 17.2 overs. If these two can continue to hold fort until lunch tomorrow, Australia will have a glimmer of a hope. Even then, Pakistan will hold advantage as Australia are a batsman short. Brad Haddin would probably not bat due to a shoulder injury.
Just 5 overs left in the day. These two batsman have settled in well, and they’ll need to stay put for a much longer time to help Australia save this match. The scoring rate has dipped a little.
Mitchell Marsh seems to have carried forward the form of the first innings here too. He dispatches Zulfiqar Babar for consecutive boundaries, and is looking suprememly confident. Steven Smith is also scoring runs at a quick rate, and playing attacking cricket from time to time.
Warner gets his half-century! Fearless and important knock from him considering the circumstances. However, Australia needs him to bat for much longer. He doesn’t respond to the need of his nation, and hits one into the air to be dismissed by Mohammad Hafeez.
OUT! David Warner c Yasir Shah b Hafeez 58 (75)
The Australians are not looking to put a lid on the scoring, and just survive the overs. David Warner is approaching his half-century. He has played well so far, and scored freely. Steven Smith, is also looking settled, and seems set for a big innings.
Wonder what was discussed in the Australian camp at Tea. Michael Clarke has been dismissed in the first over after the break. Zulfiqar Babar has struck again! Pakistan look almost certain to win their first Test series against Australia in 20 years.
OUT! Clarke b Babar 5 (10)
Oh dear! Maxwell is gone. He was given not out, but Pakistan review and find success. Australia in deep trouble. That’s Tea! It has been another great session for Pakistan. Australia will look to not lose any more wickets in the final session.
OUT! Glenn Maxwell lbw Babar 4(12)
Warner needs 79 off 26. Maxwell needs 96 off 44 #PAKvAUS
Gone! Chris Rogers gives a simple catch to leg slip. Zulfiqar Babar makes the breakthrough. Australia have started their effort to save the Test match on a bad note. Big-hitting Glne
OUT! Chris Rogers c Shafiq b Babar 2 (27)
David Warner dispatches Imran Khan for a four in the first ball of the fourth over. The delivery was pitched outside off and Warner lunged forward to push it through mid-off. Collects three runs two deliveries later by playing a similar shot.
The Aussies have been set a massive target of 603 runs, with one-and-a-half days left at their disposal. Rahat Ali bowls the first over of Australia’s second innings. The first runs for Australia come off David Warner’s bat, who cuts the second delivery of the second over, bowled by Imran Khan, through point to collect three runs. Chris Rogers opens his account in the very next ball
100 for Azhar Ali! This is excellent from him. Meanwhile, Misbah ul Haq has reached the fastest Test century in just 56 balls. And, with that Pakistan have declared their innings.
Misbah needs 15 runs in seven balls to beat Sir Viv Richards’ Test record of 56-ball ton #PAKvAUS
Misbah is continuing in the same vein after lunch, as he was doing before it. He might well be on course to score another world record by breaking Viv Richards’ record of fastest Test century.
Misbah ul-Haq reaches the fastest half-century in Test cricket! This is amazing from the captain. It came from just 21 balls, and broke the record of Jacques Kallis. That’s Lunch! Pakistan have a lead of 519 runs, with 7 wickets remaining.
Misbah ul-Haq is giving it the treatment here! He hits three sixes and a four off Steven Smith. Pakistan’s lead approaching the 500-run mark. This is scintillating stuff just before lunch.
Younis Khan is approaching yet another half-century. But, he misses it. Steven Smith gets the better of Younis Khan. The Pakistani veteran is gone! Misbah comes to bat and starts with a four down the ground straightway.
OUT! Younis Khan lbw b S Smith 46 (122)
50 up for Azhar Ali! What a find he is turning out to be for Pakistan. This innings has been a treat to watch. Pakistan have already accumulated a lead of 443 runs, and it remains to be seen when they will declare.
Both Younis and Ali have continued to pile up the runs, even though they haven’t come at a quick rate. The partnership is worth 91, and has tired out the Australian players. Birthday boy Mitchell Johnson comes on to bowl and the over is a maiden despite 8 runs being added to the Pakistan total. 8 byes.
Pakistan have started their day on an attacking note, dispatching Peter Siddle for 12 runs in only the second over of the day. There have been a few missed chances too, as Younis Khan hit one high into the air but wasn’t caught. Luckily for him, the ball just missed the hands of a running Mitchell Starc.
Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of Day Four of the second Test between Pakistan and Australia at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. We will be bringing you the live updates of the match. Pakistan lead Australia 1-0 in the two-Test series winning the first Test at Dubai. At stumps on Day Three, Pakistan were 61 for 2, with a lead of 370.
Australia continued their poor run in the Test series, as they collapsed for 261. Only Mitchell Marsh and Michael Clarke, were able to display solid resistance against the Pakistani bowlers, who flourished on a wicket that was considered superb for batting until Day Two.
Glenn Maxwell, who appeared without his usual beard, played fearlessly and hit some cracking shots before being dismissed. Clarke was batting stoically with Marsh when Imran Khan bowled an absolute peach of a delivery to rattle his middle stump. Marsh played some exquisite shots, and gave a good display of his talent and potential as a batsman. He narrowly missed his century, as he was dismissed for a well-compiled 87.
For Pakistan, as many as five bowlers chipped in with wickets, with Imran being the pick of the bowlers. The 27-year-old, who is only playing his second Test, bowled with a lot of heart and finished with figures of 3 for 60.
Pakistan started their second innings on a fiery note, with Ahmed Shehzad hitting a six and two boundaries in the first over itself. However, his fire was soon extinguished by Mitchell Johnson who bowled him with a scorcher of a delivery. Mohammad Hafeez was dismissed soon after, and it was left to the cool and composed pair of Younis Khan and Azhar Ali to steady the Pakistan innings.
