But without enforcing the follow-on Misbah ul Haq,decided to bat again. Can Kiwis put up a fight this time around? Catch all the live updates of Day 4 of this Test here)

STUMPS New Zealand  174/8 | Overs 54

  Mark Craig 27(65)and Ish Sodhi 27 (51)

Sodhi and Craig survive the last from from Yasir Shah. New Zealand survive Day four.  . Mark Craig and Ish Sodhi will pray for some divine intervention tomorrow. It seems to be the only thing that save them tomorrow. They need to pull up their socks otherwise another defeat in the next looms large before Brendon McCullum’s men.

New Zealand  158/8 | Overs 49

Mark Craig 24(58)and Ish Sodhi 14(28)

Can New Zealand survive today. The spinners Babar and Shah are in action now. Craig has done well to survive. But it is too much of an ask too go through an entire day facing this Pakistani attack. One more wicket and that would bring Trent Boult in. A close shave for Craig there.

New Zealand  146/8 | Overs 44

Mark Craig 19(42)and Ish Sodhi 7(14)

Zulfiqr Babar comes in. Nearly gets Sodhi out there. One that spins into him. He somehow gets it away for him. Only Trent Boult to come now. An inside edge that goes to hand nearly. Things truly look ominous now.

OUT! T Southee b Babar 5

New Zealand  139/8 | Overs 40

Mark Craig 18(27)and Ish Sodhi 1(4)

Tim Southee bowled . Right through the gate. Zulfiqar Babar bowls that goes straight on. The end for New Zealand is nigh. Pakistan will hope to wrap it up today.  A run and a wicket in that over. New Zealand are in a mess.

New Zealand  138/7 | Overs 39

Mark Craig 18(27)and Tim Southee  5(17)

Southee and Craig have a long way to go. More people are coming in to the ground now. Misbah has been spot on today. He’s rung in the changes in the changes constantly.

OUT! Corey Anderson lbw Imran Khan 23

New Zealand  121/7 | Overs 35

Mark Craig 6(117)and Tim Southee  1(3)

Another wicket for Pakistan. Imran Khan this time traps Anderson leg before. He’s out for 23. It’s pace that’s doing the damage today. Will New Zealand survive today. Defeat is imminent.

New Zealand  121/6 | Overs 34

Mark Craig 6(15)and Corey Anderson 23(47)

Craig and Anderson have to hold out somehow. Defeat looks certain. The question is for how long can they last for. Pakistan have truly turned the corner ever since the series against Australia. Hafeez gives the ball some air. Anderson goes for it and he misses it completely.

OUT! K Williamson  st Ahmed b Hafeez 23

OUT! Jimmy Neesham c Ahmed bAli 0

OUT! BJ Watling b Ali 0

New Zealand  114/6 | Overs 31

Mark Craig 2(3)and Corey Anderson 12(30)

Huge blow for New Zealand there. Williamson out. He was someone who could bat all day. Now they are truly up against it. Pakistan would love for the game to end today itself. It was arm that deceived Williamson. Neesham out now. Watling out now. Craig somehow survivers the hattrick ball. Now the Kiwis are in some trouble.

New Zealand  102/3 | Overs 27

Kane Williamson 21(37) and Corey Anderson 12(30)

Mohammad Hafeez has been introduced into the attack now. As a bowler he saves his best for the left-handers, furthermore his century today will have given a lot of confidence. Pacer Rahat Ali comes on from the other end. He brought about Williamson’s dismissal in the first innings. A yorker that the batsman inside edged onto his stumps.

New Zealand  94/3 | Overs 24

Kane Williamson 17(28) and Corey Anderson 8(22)

Williamson and Anderson just looking to survive. They are playing it ball by ball. Survival is the need of the hour. If they lose a cluster of wickets again defeat would be certain. Couple of good shots from Williamson. He’s letting the ball come to him rather than pushing at it. He needs support from the rest of his teammates if his team has to pull through.

New Zealand  76/3 | Overs 20

Kane Williamson 4(13) and Corey Anderson 3(12)

Zulfiaqr Babar in now. Corey Anderson is trying his best to ward him off now. Anderson is usually aggressive but he here may have to curb his attacking instincts. Williamson has a century on debut against India. He’ll have to make a century here if New Zealand are to save the game.

New Zealand  70/3 | Overs 17

Kane Williamson 0(6) and Corey Anderson 1(2)

Two new batsmen in after. The spinners in command now. Williamson and Anderson will have to somehow see out this day. Williamson will have to pull out the stops. Taylor did not look assured at all against the spinners. If New Zealand are to somehow make an impression in these conditions they will have to play spin better.

New Zealand  57/1 | Overs 13.1

Brendon McCullum  35(44)

Out! First inning’s centurion Latham gone. First wicket down for New Zealand. abar gets one to spin and bounce more, Latham kneels down and goes for the sweep, the ball gets big on him and takes the top-edge to deep backward square, Yasir runs forward, dives and takes a superb catch. Kane Williamson is the new man in.

Latham c Yasir Shah b Babar 20(35)

New Zealand  50/0 | Overs 11

Tom Latham 18 (31) Brendon McCullum 30(35)

The leg-spinner Yasir Shah into the attack right now. Good start by New Zealand. Though now with two spinners on McCullum may find it slightly tougher. He has to bat for a long long time if New Zealand are to save to this game. A pull shot in the air by McCullum

New Zealand  39/0 | Overs 8

Tom Latham 18 (24) Brendon McCullum 19(24)

Spin has been introduced now in the form of Zulfiqar Babar. There probably will be reduction in the scoring rate. New Zealand are scoring at nearly  five per over.

New Zealand  30/0 | Overs 5

Tom Latham 13 (13) Brendon McCullum 17(17)

Rahat Ali runs in. He would be in hoping for an early breakthrough here, He scapled four New ZEaland batsmen in the first innings. Beautiful straight drive by Latham, another four for Latham, a flick. Quick start for the Kiwis here.

New Zealand  22/0 | Overs 4

Tom Latham 5 (7) Brendon McCullum 17(17)

Aggressive start by skipper Brendon McCullum here. He’s rapped on the pads by Imran Khan. He goes for a review. Looks close. Not out the third umpire rules. He’s hit the ball.

New Zealand  11/0 | Overs 2

Tom Latham 2 (4) Brendon McCullum 9(8)

Rahat Ali starts off proceedings. Latham off the mark immediately. He would be hoping to repeat his feat from the first innings. McCullum off the mark with a four as well. Eight runs off the first over from Rahat Ali. Imran Khan into the attack. A single for Latham there.

OUT! Younis Khan lbw Ish Sodhi 28

Pakistan  140/1 | Overs 35

Mohammad Hafeez 78 (114) Sarfra Ahmed  1(4)

OUT! another one for Sodhi. He traps Younis khan leg-before. He misses a sweep and the ball is clipping the off-stump. In comes Sarfraz Ahmed. More excitement now.

Pakistan  127/1 | Overs 33

Mohammad Hafeez 72 (110) Younis Khan 26 (42)

Lunch, Day 4: Pakistan have kept a lid on New Zealand. Hafeez and Azhar Ali came out with a positive mindset and scored freely. The former managed to keep going even after losing his partner and has brought up his second fifty of the game. Younis has given him good company and the pair have added 58 runs for the 2nd wicket. New Zealand seem to be waiting for the declaration as they have looked tired in the field.

Pakistan  90/1 | Overs 25

Mohammad Hafeez 52 (90) Younis Khan 10 (13)

Mohammad Hafeez continued to bat well. He’s reached his 11th half-century to go with is 96 in the first innings. This perhaps signals a return to form for him. He would be looking to convert this into a century. Pakistan lead by 394. Hafeez has looked very good this morning. He’s stroked the ball beautifully.

Pakistan  82/1 | Overs 23

 Mohammad Hafeez 47 (83) Younis Khan 7 (7)

Corey Anderson runs in. He’s bowling a consistent line and length outside the off-stump. A maiden by the massively-built Kiwi. Younis Khan hits a full toss from Iss Sodhi for four. Sodhi does bowl the occasional loose ball.

OUT! Azhar Ali lbw Sodhi 23

Pakistan  69/1 | Overs 19

 Mohammad Hafeez 36 (53) Younis Khan 0 (2)

Azhar  Ali is trapped leg-before by Ish Sodhi. Second time he’s fallen to the leggie. Misses the ball while trying to play the sweep. Younis Khan comes in. Corey Anderson is introduced into the attack. He’s the one who removed Hafeez in the first innings. Hafeez though seems to be marching on here. He’s been positive this morning.  Hafeez late cuts Sodhi for three runs.

Pakistan  57/0 | Overs 15

 Mohammad Hafeez 36 (53) Azhar Ali 16 (37)

Hafeez cover drives one more for four.  Another bouncer from Southee there. The next ball is, however, on the leg-side.  Southee has been guilty of sliding down throughout the Test match. Ish Sodhi comes in. His first ball is cover driven for four. Not a good start. His third ball, a full toss is also put away by Hafeez.

Pakistan  36/0 | Overs 12

 Mohammad Hafeez 19 (39) Azhar Ali 14 (33)

Southee runs in again. Another bouncer from the pacer. He’s running in and hitting the deck hard. Straight drive by Hafeez there for two. Trent Boult runs in. Some room there. Hafeez hits that one for four. Southee comes in again. He drifts onto the leg-side. Hazfeez promptly puts him away. Few more bouncers by the pacer there.

Pakistan  16/0 | Overs 8

 Mohammad Hafeez 6 (19) Azhar Ali 9 (27)

Pakistan lead by 320 runs. New Zealand desperately need some wickets. How are they going to cope? Boult starts off proceedings. A maiden first up. Pakistan would to look to score quickly today and then declare. Tim Southee begins the second over the day. A few bouncers there by Southee.

Hello and welcome to CricketCountry’s coverage of the first Test between Pakistan and New Zealand at Abu Dhabi. I am Indrajit Dutta, and I will be bringing you live updates from the fourth day’s play.

Opener Tom Latham hit a maiden hundred but Pakistan still managed to secure a big lead in their bid to win the first Test against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. The left-handed opener scored 103 to defy the Pakistani bowlers as wickets fell from the other end with paceman Rahat Ali (4-22) and spinner Zulfiqar Babar (3-79) wrapping up New Zealand’s first innings at 262. That gave Pakistan a big 304 run lead and despite their opponents falling 105 runs short of the follow-on mark, the hosts batted again and finished the third day at 15-0.

Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali were at the crease as Pakistan led by 319 runs with two days left to push for a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Earlier Pakistan had declared their first innings at 566-3. Pakistan’s regular opener Ahmed Shehzad was earlier ruled out of the remainder of the match and two Tests to follow afer he suffered a skull fracture suffered from a missed bouncer on Monday.

It was Latham who followed his father, Rod, to hit a Test hundred. They became the third New Zealand pair of father-son and 11th overall to score a Test century. Walter and Richard Hadlee and Ken and Hamish Rutherfod had also done it for the Kiwis in the past. Rod hit his only century against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 1992.

Latham kept one end intact as New Zealand recovered from a precarious 47 for 3 to 215 for 5 after Babar and Rahat had jolted them in the morning session. Latham, whose previous best of 83 came against the West Indies earlier this year, hit 13 boundaries during his patient 222-ball knock and added 83 for the fourth wicket with Corey Anderson who made 48.

He was finally adjudged leg-before off Rahat and despite a review had to leave the field with New Zealand at 215-6. BJ Watling (42) and Ish Sodhi (25) furthered the fight through their ninth wicket stand of 43 runs but Yasir Shah bowled Sodhi and Babar had Watling leg-before to end the innings.

After lunch Rahat had Anderson bowled while Jimmy Neesham was stumped off Hafeez for 11. In the morning Babar struck twice to derail New Zealand. Babar, who took 16 wickets in the 2-0 rout of Australia last week, dismissed Brendon McCullum (18) with a sharp turner for a slip catch and then had Ross Taylor out in a similar fashion. In between, Rahat had Kane Williamson (three) bowled off an inside edge to leave New Zealand struggling at 47-3, AFP reported.
