Australia A skipper Mitchell Marsh led the charge for his team on day one of the 2nd unofficial Test against India A with an unbeaten knock of 86 off 151 deliveries at the Alur Cricket Stadium, Alur on Saturday.
After opting to bat, Australia A finished at 290 for six with Marsh and Michael Nesser combining for an unbeaten 110-run stand for the seventh wicket. At the top of the order opener Kurtis Patterson made 48 while Travis Head, at No 3, contributed 68.
For India, spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Shahbaz Nadeem picked one wicket each while pacer Rajneesh Gurbani and spinner K Gowtham claimed one wicket a piece.
It was not a good start for Australia as Gurbani cleaned up opener Matt Renshaw for a seven-ball duck before Patterson and Head got together for a stand of 92 runs. Nadeem picked up Patterson and soon after sent back wicketkeeper batsman Peter Handscomb for eight.
An over later, Kuldeep got rid of Marnus Labuschagne for a duck. Ashton Agar kept his skipper company with a 39-ball 23-run knock before he was removed by Gowtham. After that Nesser applied himself during playing out 108 deliveries and with the help of his Marsh helped Australia A from 180 for six to 290 for six at stumps.
In the first unofficial Test, Australia A had defeated India A by 98 runs.
