With the IPL 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai, MS Dhoni marked his return as the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after 2023. CSK could manage to score only 103/9 on the board in their given 20 overs. This was their lowest ever total at their home ground.
MS Dhoni was given he leadership role after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad got ruled out of the entirety of IPL 2025 because of an elbow fracture. There was a heap ton of hype for Dhoni coming on the field as the captain, but his stay on the pitch was limited to just one run in four balls.
On this poor performance by Dhoni, former Indian batter Navjot Singh Sidhu made a sarcastic remark on the CSK star player. Sidhu comment was a famous Indian saying, which implied Dhoni’s hype to be very high, but his performance to be close to nothing.
“Arey Dhoni aa rahe hain ji jaise sher aaya, sher aaya, hype thi, badi excitement thi, par khoda pahaad nikli chuhiya. (Look Dhoni is coming like a lion is coming. Lion came, there was hype, there was lot of excitement, but the outcome was nothing as expected),” Sidhu said while commentating.

despite MS Dhoni coming as the captain, CSK were in the darker side as KKR’s bowlers kept the team to a score of 103 runs for 9 wickets. This was the lowest ever score posted by the team on home grounds. As KKR won by 8 wickets by the end, CSK saw their biggest ever defeat by the margin of balls remaining (59), and are at the ninth place on the points table.
