With South Africa busy hunting for their next coach, skipper AB de Villiers has expressed his keenness for Russell Domingo to continue as the head coach of the side. Domingo’s tenure would end soon after the England tour and new staff would be set-up by early September. Domingo has also expressed desire to reapply for the role. Under his helm, Domingo has seen South Africa reach the No.1 spot in ODIs. South Africa have also progressed in other formats with 5-0 whitewash against Australia at home, 2-1 win against Australia in away Test series, whitewashing Sri Lanka in ODIs as well as Tests at home and the recent one being defeating New Zealand 2-1 in Test series away. Full Cricket Scorecard: Pakistan vs South Africa, ICC Champions Trophy 2017

Domingo could add another feather to his cap if South Africa manage to clinch the Champions Trophy title. De Villiers praised Domingo ahead of their clash against Pakistan, who are also coached by former South African cricketer Mickey Arthur. When de Villiers was asked whose coaching style he preferred, the skipper said, “They are completely different, both very nice guys and I get along with both of them. Mickey was such a long time ago, I can’t remember his coaching style really, but we had a lot of success under him. I’ve got good memories of him as coach, but that’s long gone and is something in the past,” as quoted by sportz24.co.za.

However, de Villiers hoped Domingo reapplies and stays on after the England tour, “Yes, definitely. We’re with a great coach at the moment, who is really leading the side well and we all get along and love him as a coach.”
