AB de Villiers‘ team’s glorious nine-year unbeaten streak in away Test series may have come to an forgettable close after getting a 3-0 drubbing by the home side India in the four-Test series but the star batsman who proved to be a crowd favourite even in India assured that South Africa were still a united team and despite the disappointing lows they took solace in the exhilarating highs and remained a united team. He assured that as South Africa depart for home, they go back a stronger side. The batsman’s team may have lost the Tests badly, but were competitive enough in the limited-overs games to win the One-Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) series.
“Been a long, tough tour to say the least. Through exhilarating highs and disappointing lows, we walk away stronger, and still a united team,” de Villiers said through his Twitter account to three million followers. While South Africa may have been shockingly noncompetitive in the Tests, de Villiers lived up to his own high standards finishing as the second highest run-scorer in the series behind India’s Ajinkya Rahane.

From a personal point of view, it was a fantastic series for de Villiers as he led his side to a 3-2 victory margin over the home side and topped the scoring charts in that format with a tally of 358 runs at an average of 89.50. South Africa can not afford to let the defeat get to them as an important four-match series against a strong England beckons and they will have to regroup as soon as possible.
