After the completion of Eliminator of IPL 2016 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), David Warner and co. left no stone unchanged to come out stronger and better in the Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Lions (GL). David Warner had said that he was believer of putting runs on board and so he did. When opted to bowl first, everyone were pretty amazed to find their ace bowler Mustafizur Rahman kept out due to hamstring niggle. But his team mate Bhuvneshwar Kumar felt his absence the most. He opinionated on how important it was to have Mustafizur on the squad in such a crucial tie against Gujarat Lions (GL). FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Gujarat Lions vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2016, Qualifier 2 at Delhi

In conversation after the match, Bhuvneshwar said, “We had decided in the meeting to bowl first. If you look at their (Gujarat’s) batting line-up, they have good batsmen like Finch, Raina, McCullum and Smith. They are good chasers. So we wanted to make them bat first so that we could get them out early and chase down the target.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) received a huge blow after knowing their veteran bowler Ashish Nehra will be ruled out of the tournament due to his injury. Another blow was just on its way after Mustafizur being kept way for the important match due to niggle. Mustafizur has picked 16 wickets in 15 games with lowest economy rate in top ten bowlers this season. Replacing him was the Kiwi youngster Trent Boult, who has not played a single game since March, not even during T20 World Cup 2016. Boult ended up conceding 26 runs in death overs, as mentioned on cricbuzz.com

Bhuvneshwar added further, “Mustafizur did really well but losing him in a crucial game wasn’t good for us but Boult did very well. It’s a part of the game that he went for a few runs in the second-last over. But if you look at him, he has really worked hard in the nets. He knew that there might be a chance for him to play either the semifinals or finals but you can’t say he has given runs; it’s a part of the game. Losing Fizz wasn’t good for us.”

On speaking about Warner’s performance, Bhuvneshwar said, “The last 4-5 overs when Bipul went in to bat (was the turning point). Warner needed support from the other end, which is what Bipul did. It’s never easy to go out and score runs immediately, but Bipul hit. He’s a good pinch-hitter. He told Warner that he would give him support when he went in to bat and that’s exactly what we wanted.”

SRH bowler however mentioned that they would be celebrating for entering the final keeping in mind that there is just a day to go for final against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

“We’ll enjoy for now because we know there’s a pressure match coming up,” he said with a smile. “We will definitely strategiise because I read somewhere the other day that Virat Kohli has scored 35 per cent of RCB’s runs. It’ll be a big task for us to get Gayle, Virat and AB and later, Watson, out. We are hoping for a good contest,” he concluded
