An all-round performance saw India seal a dominating 227-run win against UAE in their second match of the ongoing ACC U-19 Asia Cup 2018 at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 3 Ground in Savar on Sunday.
After centuries from openers Devdutt Padikkal (121) and Anuj Rawat (102), who shared 205 runs, powered India to 354/6, spinner Siddarth Desai made a short work of UAE batsmen, returning figures of 6/24 to skittle them for 127 in 33.5 overs.
UAE lost their opening batsman Ronak Panoly in the first over for a duck and barring Ali Mirza, who scored 41, none of their batsmen managed a decent score. That they were able to manage a score in excess of 100 runs was thanks largely to a 53-run stand between Mirza and Figy John (24) for the third wicket. Three of their batters recorded ducks while only three managed scores in double digits.
Earlier, Rawat and Padikkal took their team to a brilliant start with a double-century stand before being separared. While Rawat struck 10 fours and five sixes in his 115-ball 102, Padikkal recorded 15 fours and two sixes for his 121 off 115 deliveries.
Panoly broke the massive stand with the scalp of Rawat in the 35th over. Aggressive batting by the middle order then pushed India past the 300-run mark. Captain Pavan Shah struck 45 off 33, Sameer Chaudhary scored 19-ball 42 while Ayush Badoni belted three sixes for his unbeaten 22 off 9.
Sunday’s victory was India U-19’s second in as many matches after they began their campaign with a 172-run win against Nepal on Saturday.
Brief Scores: India U19 354/6 (Devdutt Padikkal 122, Anuj Rawat 102) beat UAE U19 127 (Ali Mirza 41; Siddarth Desai 6/24) by 227 runs
