Adil Rashid, England leg-spinner will play for Adelaide Strikers in Big Bash League (BBL) fifth season. Rashid has had a brilliant year and his performance has finally paid dividends after getting picked for BBL. He is the second overseas player to be selected this year to play for Adelaide Strikers after West Indies’ hard-hitting batsman and medium-fast bowler Kieron Pollard. Australia’s spinner Shane Warne had earlier said that Rashid was a wonderful bowler. Rashid is not totally unknown to BBL. He played for West End Redbacks team in 2010-11 and helped his team to victory. Shane Warne: Adil Rashid a wonderful bowler
Adelaide Strikers’ coach Jason Gillespie was quoted by KFC Big Bash League’s official website saying, ” Rashid is one of the most exciting spinners on the international stage. I have watched him improve and mature year on year. I feel he is the perfect fit for the team, and it is exciting to have him on board.” Meanwhile, James Whitaker, England and Wales Cricket Board national selector said, “Adil Rashid showed plenty of promise in the UAE but the conditions in South Africa make the likelihood of playing two spinners extremely remote. Although he would have been selected as a back-up spinner we feel there is an excellent opportunity for him to spend some time developing his white ball skills in the lead up to the ICC World T20 in March. It is likely that Adil will travel to Australia to play for a Big Bash franchise.” Video: Aaron Finch sledges Glenn Maxwell in BBL 2015
