Afghanistan have managed to score 41 for 1 in the powerplay, against Scotland, of the ICC World T20 2016, 2nd qualifier at Nagpur. They were off to a flying start with both openers, Mohammad Shahzad and Noor Ali Zadran, taking the attack to the bowlers, however things slowed down after Alasdair Evans accounted for Noor’s wicket. Shahzad decided to curb his naturally aggressive instincts for a while in a bid to consolidate. Asghar Stanikzai came out with intent, smashing a six to square leg off his second ball, but slowed down thereafter. Evans bowled very well, and so did Safyaan Sharif. Josh Davey was a let down in this period. Live Scorecard: Afghanistan vs Scotland, ICC World T20 2016, group B match at Nagpur

Davey conceded 21 runs in his two overs. He was unable to hit the right areas and the batsmen cashed in. The match stands very evenly poised at the moment. It is common knowledge that Shahzad can be a beast and will look to explode at any point. It is in Scotland’s best interest to get him out as soon as possible.

Afghanistan bat deep and the key to success for Scotland is to keep making breakthroughs. Shahzad has been in breezy form of late, and he will look to come into his own soon. This Scottish attack is not built on pushovers though. Evans, Sharif and Mark Watt have bowled well. In two overs Evans conceded seven runs and even picked an important scalp.
