England began cautiously. Amir Hamza got rid of Jason Roy as he was bowled for just 5 runs. James Vince then carried on the innings with in-form batsman Joe Root. Vince was then caught and bowled by Mohammad Nabi in his first over. England captain Eoin Morgan soon followed him. He was bowled the very next ball. Morgan didn’t offer a shot off the first ball he played and was back in the dug-out within a minute. Joe Root was the next to depart as a brilliant piece of mind by Nabi, taking the stumps off the ground yielded the most crucial wicket for the Afghanistan team. From 42-1 the score soon became 57-6. Jos Butler was picked by Nabi who was on a roll for his team and Ben Stokes was done in by Rashid Khan.

Chris Jordan and Moeen Ali did get a necessary partnership to take the score forward but Jordan was soon out, caught and bowled by Rashid. Moeen Ali carried on the innings then with David Willey and it was almost becoming essential for England to play their full 20 overs. There were not many boundaries for England in their innings as they somehow dragged the score to a hundred in the 18th over. But the 19th over of the match proved to be the best over for England as Amir Hamza into his last over, was smashed for 25 runs by Moeen Ali. Hamza ended up with figures of 1-45. Shapoor Zadran bowled the last over of the England innings as they ended up on 142 runs, Moeen Ali top scoring with 41 off 33 balls.
