As Afghanistan take on Zimbabwe on their first One-Day International (ODI) match of the five-match series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the game will be carried forward from where it had stopped between the two teams at 2003. Afghanistan aims to seal this year on a high note with their consistence performance, as they created history on their tour to Zimbabwe by winning first series over a Test-playing nation. They won the fiver-match series 3-2. Afghanistan bounced back remarkably after being 1-2 down. The three star batsmen were Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ali Zadran and Mohammad Shahzad and two bowling unit who stood out were Dawlat Zadran and Hamza Hotak. As reported on icc-cricket.com, Nabi and Zadran were two batsmen to cross the 200-runs mark, where Nabi made 223 runs at an average of 44.60 and Zadran scored 202 at an average of 40.40. Nabi was again the only batsman to make 116 runs, his first maiden One-Day International (ODI) ton, in a 58-run win in the second game. On the bowlers end, Zadran was the second best bowler with nine wickets at an average of 9.66. In the fourth ODI, Zadran took three wickets to keep Zimbabwe held up at 184 for 8. Afghanistan has also elected Nawaz Khan, the 21-year-old uncapped player, who took nine wickets in two matches of Mis Ainak in Afghanistan’s regional four-day tournament. Zimbabwe has come to Sharjah without Sean Williams, who was ruled out of action for at least two weeks due to bursitis in groin. Williams went through the injury during the match against Ireland and the MRI scans revealed the depth of the injury. In the absence of Williams, Elton Chigumbura, Hamilton Masakadza and Sikandar Raza will step in to fill the void. Zimbabwe are also looking to win this series, as they are keen to revive their relation back again on this stadium, on the other hand Afghanistan are already on a high with their first win over Scotland in the World Cup.
