Rod Marsh, who chairs the four-man selection committee of Cricket Australia along with Australian coach Darren Lehman, accepted his share of blame for the humiliating loss in the fourth Ashes Test at Trent Bridge which saw the Urn going to England’s shelf. However, Marsh admitted that although the selection was the previous game was the toughest, he would have anyway chosen the same boys, who surrendered the Ashes inside three days at Nottinghamshire and also suggested that since they have discovered the weakness in their middle-order they will work towards it prior to the last game. According to a report from Cricket Australia, Marsh has asked his batsmen to be “more selfish” and bat longer in order to score big. It is not good news for him since his position in the Australian board is under scrutiny for selecting an inexperienced Ashes squad that has been labelled as “Dad’s army.” After losing the last two matches inside three days and giving away the Ashes trophy to the home team, Marsh defends his selection of players that under-performed so far on the tour.
“You’ve got to be held accountable – fine, I agree with that. But I’m just racking my brain to try and think of who else we could have picked. If I had my time again, to sit down and choose the batsmen to come to England it would have been exactly the same. I just couldn’t think of anyone else who could have done the job. We picked blokes with experience in these conditions; we picked blokes that we thought would get runs.” READ: Trevor Bayliss’ pay skyrockets after Ashes 2015 victory
