Fancied teams Air India and BPCL fared poorly in their last league outings, losing to ONGC and Dr D Y Patil Group ‘A’ sides in the Rs 12-lakh prize money 8th All-India Dr D Y Patil Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at Nerul.
Air India, however, will advance to the next stage thanks to their two earlier victories.
Batting first, Air India were restricted to 121 for 6, with only Prashant Naik (53) and Paul Valthaty (27) making significant contributions.
In reply, ONGC surpassed the target for the loss of just four wickets. Taruvir Kohli and Ajay Ratra hit unbeaten knocks of 43 and 25 respectively.
BPCL were also let down by their batsmen in the face of some accurate bowling from Iqbal Abdullah and T Sudhindra, who captured four and three wickets respectively.
Batting first, D Y Patil ‘A’ rode on Saurabh Tiwary’s 49 from 31 deliveries and a quick 30 by Swapnil Asnodlkar to accumulate 151 for 9 from their 20 overs before restricting BPCL to 117 with an over to spare.(PTI)

Indian Cement 163 for 5 in 20 Overs (Hemang Badani 54, Suresh Kumar S. 50 n.o., K B Arun Karthik 27, Jitendra Patil 3 for 30) beat Jain Irrigation, 150 all out in 19.3 overs (Mohsin Dodiya 47, Rajeev Mehra 23, P Amarnath 2 for 16, Suresh Kumar S. 3 for 20 in 4 overs, S Suresh 2 for 29).
Dr D Y Patil Group ‘A’ 151 for 9 in 20 Overs (Saurabh Tiwary 49, S Chitnis 31, Swapnil Asnodkar 30, R Verma 3 for 18 in 3, Abhishek Nayar 3 for 27 in 4) beat BPCL, 117 all out in 19 overs (Vinit Indulkar 49, T Sudhindra 3 for 25 in 4, Iqbal Abdulla 4 for 17 in 4).
