Ajinkya Rahane scored a composed 42 not out — the highest score of the match — to lead Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) to a 19-run win over Delhi Daredevils (DD) via Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method in Match 49 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 at Visakhapatnam. Usman Khawaja got RPS off to a positive start, scoring 19 off 13 balls with 4 boundaries before slicing one off Chris Morris to Shreyas Iyer at backward point. George Bailey once again walked out at No. 3 but took some time to get going. It did not matter for RPS though; Rahane was soon in his rhythm. RPS were 57 for 1 in the ninth over with Rahane on 26 and Bailey on 6 when rain interrupted play for the first time. FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Rising Pune Supergiants vs Delhi Daredevils, IPL 2016, Match 49 at Visakhapatnam

The interruption lasted around 45 minutes with no reduction in overs. RPS were already ahead on D/L method at the time, but with the resumption in play the new par score was 62 in 11 overs. RPS got it in 9.3 overs, but since there was no rain at the time the match continued. As it happened, the last ball of the 11th over saw rain once again interrupt play, this time for good. RPS were well ahead of the par score with Rahane unbeaten on 42 and Bailey on 8 as RPS won by 19 runs via D/L method. FULL CRICKET UPDATES: Rising Pune Supergiants vs Delhi Daredevils, IPL 2016, Match 49 at Visakhapatnam

Earlier, Visitors Delhi Daredevils (DD) batsman Karun Nair played a steady knock of 41, as he allowed DD to finish on a modest total of 121 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, against new franchise and hosts Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), in Match 49 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016, at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. Earlier, RPS skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first due to the overcast conditions with rain threat looming over, as he made a change in the form of Murugan Ashwin, who is replaced by Deepak Chahar, while DD skipper Zaheer Khan makes three changes, as he brings in Nathan Coulter-nile, Shreyas Iyer and Mohammad Shami for Mayank Agarwal, Imran Tahir and Shahbaz Nadeem.

DD were off to a shaky start, as with just four runs on the board, opener Quinton de Kock fell for a mere couple, as he was trapped leg-before by Ashok Dinda in the third over. With 21 runs added to the total, it was the other fellow opener in the form of Shreyas Iyer, who too fell for cheap eight runs to Dinda again, after being caught by Usman Khawaja in the fifth over.

It was again followed by a decent 24-run stand for the third wicket between Karun Nair and Sanju Samson, before Samson fell for mere 10 to Adam Zampa, after being stumped by Dhoni in the 10th over, as the score read 49 for three. With just 13 added to the total, Rishabh Pant was the next man to depart, as he fell for just four to Zampa again, who made him caught by Thisara Perera in the 13th over.

The partnerships were hardly building, as at the score of 70, the fifth wicket fell in the form of Karun Nair, who was going good, but fell short by nine runs to his half-century in the 15th over, as Zampa trapped him leg before. However, a 23-run stand followed between JP Duminy and Chris Morris, before Duminy fell in the 19th over to Dinda again, after being caught by Irfan Pathan. Nevertheless, it was the pair of Morris and Coulter-Nile, who batted out until the end, as they put up a 28-run stand and propelled DD to a modest total of 121 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, thus allowing RPS a need of 122 in 20 overs.

Brief scores:

Delhi Daredevils 121 for 6 in 20 overs (Karun Nair 41; Ashok Dinda 3 for 20, Adam Zampa 3 for 21) lost to Rising Pune Supergiants 76 for 1 in 11 overs (Ajinkya Rahane 42*; Chris Morris 1 for 12) by 19 runs via D/L method.
