Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) thanks to a wonderful half-century by Ajinkya Rahane went past Delhi Daredevils (DD) target of 163 runs in 19.1 overs. Rahane and along with RPS new entrant Usman Khawaja notched up 59 run stand for the first wicket, which gave RPS a solid and steady start. Khawaja playing his first ever Indian Premier League (IPL) match, cracked 27-ball 30 which included 2 four’s and one six. Khawaja was stumped by Amit Mishra as Khawaja was beaten with flight. Rahane carried on his bat through out the innings added 45 runs for the second wicket with incoming Saurabh Tiwary. Rahane remained unbeaten on 63* (48) along side Thisera Perera who was not-out on 14 to hand RPS 7 wicket victory. Tiwary was who has looked good in parts could only manage 21 runs from the 18 balls he faced. Imran Tahir picked up Tiwary’s wicket who was looking to slog-sweep him over mid wicket gave a diving Sam Billings a catch. After Tiwary’s wicket it was skipper MS Dhoni who went hammer and tong making a quick-fire 27 from 20 balls hitting one four and 2 sixes.  Dhoni’s innings came to an end after Billings took a blinder running to his dominant side. Dhoni was also Tahir’s first wicket of the match. Dhoni along with Rahane added 42 runs for the third wicket with Dhoni scoring the bulk of the runs. Perera provided the final nail in the coffin smashing Tahir for back-to-back sixes to take his team to a memorable victory.  Tahir’s bowling the nineteenth over gave away 17 runs which meant RPS needed just 3 runs from last over to win the match. It was apt that Rahane got the winning run for this RPS batting throughout the innings.

Delhi Daredevils after being asked to bat first managed only 162 run in 20 overs. It was stand-in skipper JP Duminy, Sam Billings, Karun Nair and Carlos Brathwaite that were instrumental in getting DD to a par score. Duminy top scored for DD making 34 runs while for RPS it was Rajat Bhatia who was the most effective bowler taking figures of 2 for 22. Scott Boland also picked up two wickets in his four overs giving away 31 runs. Both teams had plenty of changes in their playing XI,  with DD resting captain Zaheer Khan and opener Quinton De Kock calling in Pawan Negi, Carlos Brathwaite, Jayant Yadav and Imran Tahir.  RPS made the mandatory change of bring in Usman Khawaja and George Bailey for injured Steven Smith and opener Peter Handscomb.

With this loss DD remain at number 3 in the table with 10 points while RPS are still placed at number 6 in the table with 6 points.
