England captain Alastair Cook went past David Gower to climb up to the third spot in England’s all-time run-scorer after having gone past Kevin Pietersen in the first session of the third Test against India at Southampton on Day One.Earlier, Alastair Cook went past Pietersen in the list of all-time run-scorers for England when he scored his 22nd run against India.

With 8,181 Test runs, Pietersen was the on the fourth position of the England run-scorers list, while Gower with 8,231 runs was at the third spot. However, Cook has overtaken both players to occupy the third position behind Alec Stewart and Graham Gooch.

Cook also scored his 2,000th run as captain during the course of his fifty. With Cook’s place under scrutiny as captain, the milestones would be a good motivator for him to get his batting back on track.
