Alastair Cook, the England Test skipper became the youngest batsman to 9,000 Test runs after half-century on day five in of the second and final Test against New Zealand at Leeds. However Cook fought almost a lone battle from one end, but partners didn’t give him much of support. After his fighting 56 on Tuesday, the England captain, now has broken the record of Sachin Tendulkar as the youngest player in history to score 9,000 Test runs. Cook reached this milestone in 30 years 159days, whereas the ‘Little Master’ did it in 30y 253 days. So the Essex southpaw reached there by 94 days early. Meanwhile Cook wasn’t the fastest batsman to the 9,000-run mark in terms of innings — that record belongs to Sri Lankan run machine, Kumar Sangakarra with 172 innings. He is also the only left-hander to reach 9,000 Test runs in less than 10 years, beating India’s Rahul Dravid who got there in 10 years and nine days.
