An all-round performance from Zimbabwe helped them register a -run win over Scotland in the match 5 of Round 1, Group B ICC World T20 2016 match at Nagpur. Zimbabwe were off to a tumbling start as they lost a few early wickets but then a much-needed half-century by Sean Williams helped them post 147 with the loss of 7 wickets. Winning the toss, Zimbabwe skipper Hamilton Masakadza promptly chose to bat. The two started off the innings quite well, as they hit three boundaries in three overs. Just when the batsmen were looking to be in a good touch, they worsen the situation for their side. In the second ball of the fourth over, impatient Sibanda calls for a single while there was no run at all. As the batsmen started running, fielder fetches it from backward square leg and throws in an attempt to do a run out. Hurriedly running, the batsmen collide. They continue the run as Hamilton get run out by a significant distance while Sibanda makes his ground and went down in pain immediately afterwards. Later in the replay it was revealed that he had injured his chin due to the impact of the collision.

Sibanda fell for an Alasdair Evans delivery shortly after it. The Zimbabwe middle-order, except from Sean Williams, failed to perform as one after another the team kept on losing important wickets. Richmond Mutumbami, after starting with a couple of boundaries and a six, went for 19 while Malcolm Waller departed making 13. Elton Chigumbura displayed sensible cricket as he stayed there at the crease and took the score to 147 before getting out off the last delivery.

Among the Scotland bowlers, Alasdair Evans got Scotland their second breakthrough after Hamilton’s run out and bagged 2 wickets while Mark Watt remained the most impactful bowler with 2 wickets for 21 runs. Safyaan Sharif also bagged two, including the crucial one of Sean Williams.

The chase did not start off quite positively for Scotland as they kept on losing wickets in quick succession. Wellington Masakadza gave his team the first breakthrough as he removed a set George Munsey for 8. The next in Matthew Cross followed Munsey for a golden duck. Wellington Struck again as he dismissed Matt Machan for 9. But the most crucial one was of experienced Kyle Coetzer. Sikandar Raza pulled off a terrific one-handed catch as Coetzer departed for 3 and Scotland were 20 for 4.

Skipper Preston Mommsen along with Richie Berrington calmed things down a bit. The partnership went on to add 51 important runs after the top-order collapse. But Wellington came into the scene and removed the skipper breaking the strong partnership. Scotland never revived afterwards, though efforts from Josh Davey should be praised.

The Zimbabwe bowlers started off exceptionally well. Wellington Masakadza remained the highest wicket-taker of the match with his 4 wickets while Donald Tiripano and Tendai Chatara bagged a couple of wickets each.

Brief Scores:

Zimbabwe 147 for 7 ( Sean William 53; Alasdair Evans 2 for 30, Mark Watt 2 for 21) win by 11 runs vs Scotland 136 all-out (Preston Mommsen 31, Richie Berrington 36; Wellington Masakadza 4 for 28, Tendai Chatara 2 for 24)
