Former England pace spearhead Matthew Hoggard believes that James Anderson will go on to become England’s leading wicket-taking bowler.

“Jimmy’s been fantastic. He still has another 150 wickets or so to take to get to the very top and that’s a lot of wickets. I think he’s led the England attack really well. He’s a very skilful bowler,” Hoggard was quoted by The Telegraph.

29-year-old Anderson took 21 wickets in the recently concluded four-Test series against India, is currently placed at the seventh spot in the list of England’s leading wicket-takers, having taken 240 wickets in 63 matches, 143 behind Sir Ian Botham.

Anderson will soon move up in the table as he is just eight wickets behind Hoggard.

“I think he’ll rise through the ranks and will probably be well above me by the time he retires. But to get 300 wickets would be a very tough task,” he added.
