Graeme Smith, the former South African captain, feels Andrew Strauss is making England cricket a laughing stock yet again. On Tuesday, Strauss called for a press conference where he said that Kevin Pietesersen did not fit into the scheme of things in England’s short-term plans. It came at a time when Pietersen scored a triple-ton for Surrey in County Cricket. Smith took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter. Strauss succeeded Paul Downton as England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) Director of Cricket and is now in charge of making the major cricketing decisions. Stauss had said on Tuesday, “He’s been a phenomenal player. Over months and years the trust between himself and the ECB has eroded. Because of that we’ve decided it’s not in the best short-term interests of the side for him to be in that team.” READ: Bob Willis criticises ECB for man-handling Pietersen
“Trust is imperative in any team environment. My job is to look to the future of English cricket and develop a side capable of winning tournaments over the next four years. “He [Pietersen] is not barred from playing for England but he is not part of our plans for this summer. He’s not barred from playing for England. He’s not part of our plans this summer, I can’t make any guarantees to him, or any player, beyond that,” Strauss had said.
