Sri Lanka’s Angelo Perera achieved a rare feat during SL’s Premier League season scoring two double centuries in on First-Class match in the Tournament Tier A match against Sinhalese Sports Club at the P Sara Oval, Colombo.

Playing for Nondescripts Cricket Club, the skipper scored 201 off 203 balls in the first innings and went on to add further 231 off 268 balls against a bowling line-up including Sri Lanka internationals Dhammika Prasad and Sachithra Senanayake.

While Perera’s feat is the first for a Sri Lanka cricketer, he is second overall to achieve the feat.

England’s Arthur Fagg had scored 244 – including a hundred before lunch — and 202 not out —  the second double hundred coming in just 170 minutes for Kent against Essex at Colchester in 1938.

Perera has played four ODIs and two T20Is for Sri Lanka and with the two doubles is now the fifth highest run-getter in the tournament this year. He has 882 runs in six matches. Leading batting chart is Chilaw Marians Cricket Club’s Oshada Fernando, who has amassed 1181 runs so far in nine matches.

The knock is likely to put the 28-year-old in contention for a spot in the Sri Lankan Test side, which lost the two-match series to Australia earlier in the day 0-2, succumbing in the 2nd Test by 366 runs.
