Two of India’s star batsman — Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, who are pillars of Indian team were conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award for their outstanding contribution towards cricket. Rahane received this award for the current year, while Rohit was bestowed this award for the last year by Sports Minister Vijay Goel. The duo was honoured at a function held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. Rahane is currently the vice-captain of the Indian Test side with Virat Kohli at the helm of the affairs. Rohit was not available to receive this award last year due to his participation in an international series.
Since 2015, Rahane has been excellent with the bat for Indian side in both Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODI). Since 2015, he has scored 836 runs at 55.73 with four centuries to his name in whites. While in ODIs, he amassed 863 runs at 41.09 from 25 games, which is also quite impressive. On the other hand, Rohit received this award for the year 2015 and his number in 2014 in ODIs and are 578 runs at 52.54, which includes his mammoth knock of 264 and in T20Is, he made 200 runs at 40.
Both the players have impressed in their own way and have been the core of Indian batting. On this occasion, team India coach Anil Kumble and few other cricketers congratulated them for this honour. Here are some tweets.
