Anton Devcich, Kane Williamson roast Cape Cobras attack for Northern Knights in CLT20 2014, 3rd match

Sep 19, 2014

Anton Devcich got to a well crafted half-century too, determined to match up to the classy brilliance of his partner, Kane Williamson. The bottomline here was the southpaw got to his half-century too and the last few overs has seen him grow into the game and with some excellent improvisation, was getting boundaries thick and fast. Willliamson shifted gears yet again and more runs flowed of his elgant blade; except that this time some belligerence teamed up with the Kiwi’s natural grace.

After going steady in the first few overs, it was absolute carnage from Kane Williamson and Anton Devcich. The second change bowlers of Cape Cobras were taken to the cleaners by CLT20 2014, 3rd match and boundaries flowed off the blade thick and fast. Williamson went after Robin Peterson and Devcich went berserk after Avive Mgijimi and was carted all over the ground. Then Kane Williamson brought up his half-century in just 25 balls and Devcich was closing in on his landmark too.

Earlier, Northern Knights openers were looking effortless at the crease and Cape Cobras bowlers and fielders were scratching their heads for answers at this stage. The scoring rate was not extraordinary but it was steady and Kane Williamson was growing into the game with some sparkling shots all around of the wicket. There was a run out scare at the start of eight over and as was the trend till this point in the game, fourtune favoured the Knights and Cobras just could not latch on to the half-chances. Hashim Amla made another valiant effort and saved four runs for his team.

Earlier, Justin Kemp had a nasty injury tryring to take a diving catch and immideatly ran to Cape Cobras dugout to get some treatement as losing the all-rounder would end up being a big blow for the fielding side. Northern Knights meanwhile were living dangerously and were Hashim Amla nearly took a spectacular diving catch. Robin Peterson’s bowling did little to stem the flow of runs and and Anton Devcich struck a lovely boundary.

Charl Langevelt was tidy after a wayward first over and the Northern Knights were finding it hard to get runs under way and were constantly faltering in their attempts to clear the ropes.  It was Kane Williamson who got a move on with the score and he was rewarded when a hook of Vernon Philander cleared the ropes and the score made for better reading. Northern Knights were trying to go hell for leather right from ball one but the batsman could not connect with the Charl Langevelt’s wayward bowling. There was a run-out chance too but it went begging. Another wayward delivery from the former South African new ball bowler went for a boundary and it was Kane Williamson who was in the act.

Cape Cobras won the toss and elected to bat first in the only encounter of the day in Raipur. Cobras revieved a big blow when their talisman JP Duminy was ruled of the tournament. The high flying knights have been looking solid and are maintaining a largely unchanged line-up. Knights’ key man Daniel Harris misses out this game.
